Building Blocks

One of my favorite ideas from Jordan Peterson is being the “responsible one at a funeral.” It’s an achievable and admirable goal to have for your life. You want to be the person who can face the situation head-on and be useful in one of the toughest moments in life. It’s an opportunity to honor someone’s life and I would want to make the most of the situation.

This idea got me thinking of what quality I want to serve as the building block for me. If I walk into a room with 100 random people, what is the personality quality that would shine? This is ideally a quality of yourself that you are proud of and others would use this characteristic to describe you. This is a trait that we should be able to have no matter the circumstances. We should be automatic in our ability to display this characteristic.

For me, this quality would be dependability. I take great pride in knowing that I’ll be there for others. I’ll always show up and be there to do my part, however large or small. I don’t want others to have to worry about my actions because they know I’ll be there doing the right thing.

For you, maybe your quality is compassion, being adventurous, or being imaginative. I think it’s important for us all to recognize what we bring to the table. We should be doubling down on our strengths, but we first have to identify them.

Peace and Love.
