How can someone make millions of people unique with the same ?
Larry David, the co-creator of Seinfeld, and the star of Curb Your Enthusiasm has a very unique ability. He can relate to people in ways they aren’t expecting. He is able to comment on thoughts on feelings that people have subconsciously, but never fully develop. He’s a few steps ahead. There is a reason why he has been one of the most successful people on television over the last 50 years.
I feel like this skill is something that most great comedians have mastered. They are able to relate with their audience with ideas that the audience didn’t know they had. Specific to Larry David and Curb Your Enthusiasm, he makes the audience relate to his crazy character. As a viewer, you think that you are the only one in the world that would act in the same way as Larry in an episode, except there are millions of other people feeling the same way. This is an exceptional power. Making millions of people feel unique. Do you see the irony?
An example of this is when Larry is getting a ride from a friend and his wife. Larry’s friend is driving, his wife was in the passenger’s seat, and Larry was in the back. The wife gets dropped off and Larry’s destination was another 3 minutes further up the street. The friend tells Larry to move up to the front to take his wife’s seat, but Larry said that he would just stay in the back since his destination was only a couple of minutes away.
There is back and forth between Larry and his friend around how the friend doesn’t want to feel like Larry’s personal chauffeur. I am on Team Larry in this situation. I actually had a very similar situation with another friend where I was just fine hanging in the back when the front seat opened up. My destination was only a couple of minutes away.
This power can go a long way – being able to make people feel unique and special in large quantities.
